As a former New Yorker, Hawaii always seemed so far away…most of us headed to Europe or the Caribbean for vacation; it’s simply closer. Now that we live in Los Angeles, (2 years and counting!) we have a whole new world of travel destinations on the list of must see’s. The first was Hawaii, as it’s only 5.5 hours from Los Angeles and a 3 hour time difference. AKA totally doable. There are many islands to visit; we chose Maui as it is consistently rated a top destination in the world. The climate is incredibly diverse (beach, mountains, volcanoes, rainforest) and there are so many things to do. You can go straight up luxury (I would recommend the Grand Wailea Waldorf Astoria or the Four Seasons for this) or you can do the Airbnb route, which is what we did. We rented a great 1 bedroom condo right in Kihei, across the street from the beach and within walking distance to restaurants and shops. It’s a small town but they have excellent food, surfing, stand up paddle boarding, and even some snorkeling. All activities we enjoyed. We also did the Road to Hana, which is a winding road that circles the island with many stops along the way, a Luau, and tried lots of local eateriers. We wanted to be active and explore. I could honestly share all 300 plus photos here but it would be a huge post and you’d probably lose interest after awhile. Here are some of my absolute favorite shots and there are more on my travel page for you to look through. Have any of you been to Maui before? What did I miss from my list below that I need to mark for my next trip? Favorite Maui activities/eats:Snorkeling Monokini and Turtle Town (we rode the Quiksilver tour boat, that makes a decent Mai Tai post snorkel, btw!)Surfing-we took lessons from the Surf Shack in KiheiStand up paddlebaording- rented from Surf Shack in KiheiRoad to Hana- took the tour with Valley Isle Excursions Aloha Lemonade for acai bowls of all varietiesCoconuts for fish tacosKoiso for fresh sushi (make a reservation, books up fast!)Mama’s Fish House (best fancy yet homemade Hawaiian food, also make a reservation as they book up fast!)My new fav one piece from Nastygal-click to shop it!
