It’s great to be back in LA, but I have to admit I had so much fun visiting Sydney that I could have stayed there for a bit! The city itself reminds me a bit of London and yet also a bit of Los Angeles, two of my favorite places. The people are incredibly friendly and welcoming. My purpose of the trip was to connect with brands participating in #mbfwa to aide them in coming to the US to participate in our trade show events. Many Australian brands find commercial success in the United States (Camilla, Dion Lee, Bec & Bridge, Ellery, Cameo Collective, Romance Was Born, to name a few). I met with many of them on their home turf but also got to experience some runway presentations that took place at the Carriageworks space in Sydney. This was the first official resort fashion week, a shift that will allow an alignment of better timing for Australian and international buyers to partake in an ever more important part of the retailers purchases for the year of resortwear. Australia is known for this type of clothing (think beaches, holidays, relaxing) so they are capitalizing on this new timing. Everyone I spoke to applauded it and it seemed a great success for them to do this move. There are so many fashion weeks and market weeks that it’s fairly critical for brands to find their niche. In the interim of meeting with brands and shows, I got to do some exploring, mainly near where I was staying at the Harbour bridge area. The best part of my days were walking down to the Opera House and seeing the beautiful sunsets over the water. I have a few pictures below of my experiences in Sydney and I hope you’ll enjoy looking through them. Have you ever been? What did I miss out on? What should I do next opportunity I get to visit?
